Dunedin, November 13, 2025 – New Zealand wrapped up the five-match T20I series in style, defeating West Indies by eight wickets in the fifth and final clash to secure a 3-1 series victory at Dunedin on Thursday.
Chasing a modest target of 140, the Black Caps cruised home with more than four overs to spare, maintaining their unbeaten T20I record at the venue. Openers Tim Robinson and Devon Conway set the tone with a 69-run partnership. Robinson top-scored with a fluent 45, while Conway remained unbeaten on 47 to steer the hosts to victory. Contributions from Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman, both scoring in the 20s, ensured a comfortable finish.
Disciplined Bowling Sets Up Win
Earlier, New Zealand’s bowlers produced a clinical display to restrict the West Indies to just 140 in 19 overs. Jacob Duffy led the charge with a brilliant 4 for 35, taking crucial wickets early on to dismantle the visiting batting order. Roston Chase and Romario Shepherd offered brief resistance, but consistent breakthroughs from the Kiwi bowlers kept the Windies on the back foot.
Duffy’s exceptional spell earned him both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards after taking 10 wickets across the five games. “We wanted to be clinical—it’s our last home T20 before the World Cup,” Duffy said, adding that early wickets were key to their success.
Captains React
Winning skipper Mitchell Santner praised his side’s all-round performance. “We knew the seamers would get help, and our bowlers did a fantastic job picking early wickets. The batters were professional in the chase, and I’m proud of the effort,” he said.
West Indies captain Shai Hope admitted his team fell short with the bat but highlighted positives from the lower order. “Preparation is important, but we can’t use conditions as an excuse. There are promising signs, and we’ll look to improve in the ODIs,” Hope stated.
What’s Next
The focus now shifts to the ODI leg of the tour, beginning Sunday, November 16, in Christchurch. The first ODI is scheduled to start at 1 AM GMT, with both teams eager to start the 50-over series on a high.
