Hollywood star Nicole Kidman has shared rare insights into the future of her daughters, saying she wants them to choose their own paths rather than follow expectations tied to her successful acting career.
Speaking to People at the New York City premiere of her upcoming television series Scarpetta, the award-winning actress discussed whether her daughters, Sunday and Faith, might step into the entertainment industry.
Kidman, who shares the two daughters with country music star Keith Urban, said she prefers not to speak for them when it comes to their future ambitions.
“I can’t answer for them,” says Kidman
During the interview, Kidman emphasized that children should have the freedom to define their own identities and goals.
“I mean, I can’t answer for them,” she said while discussing whether her daughters would pursue acting.
The actress explained that parents should avoid deciding their children’s paths for them as they grow into adulthood.
“The thing that we all know about children and when they become young women — don’t answer for them,” Kidman said. “Don’t tell them who they are or what they are. They’re there to tell you who they are.”
She added that if people want to know about her daughters’ ambitions, they would have to ask them directly.
Actress says she would love to have daughters on set
Although Kidman is uncertain about what careers her daughters will eventually pursue, she admitted that she would enjoy having them around while she works.
“I would just love to have them with me at all times,” she shared. “They’re always like, ‘Mama, mama, you can’t have that.’ But yes, of course I’d be interested in that. I just want them with me.”
The Oscar-winning actress also spoke warmly about her close relationship with her daughters, describing them as an essential part of her life.
“They’re a part of me, and they’re my loves,” she said.
Family life and past relationships
Kidman and Urban ended their marriage earlier this year after nearly two decades together. Despite the personal changes, the actress continues to prioritize family and her role as a mother.
The actress also shares two adopted children, Bella and Connor, with her former husband, Hollywood star Tom Cruise.
