Hollywood icons Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have officially reunited on set after more than two decades to film the long-awaited sequel to their 1998 cult classic, Practical Magic.
The beloved duo returns as witch sisters Sally and Gillion Owens in Practical Magic 2, currently in production.
A behind-the-scenes video from the film’s first day of shooting was shared by Kidman on Friday, July 18. The emotional clip shows Sandra Bullock embracing Nicole Kidman in a cemetery scene, saying, “Turns out we have a lot of work to do,” marking the return of the magical Owens sisters. Kidman captioned the post: “The witches are back. Owens sisters’ first day on set! #PracticalMagic.”
The original Practical Magic, based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel, followed the story of two sisters who, after the death of their parents, were raised by their aunts and discovered they had inherited a powerful magical legacy. The film has since become a Halloween favorite, gaining a loyal fanbase over the years.
Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock entered talks to reprise their roles in June 2024, alongside returning cast members Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, who will again play Aunt Frances (Franny) and Aunt Jet, respectively.
Practical Magic 2 also introduces several new cast members, including Joey King, Solly McLeod, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, and Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña, adding fresh energy to the magical tale.
Directed by Susanne Bier and written by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett, the upcoming sequel promises a deeper dive into the Owens family’s mystical world. Warner Bros. has announced that Practical Magic 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on September 28, 2026.
Fans of the original can expect a heartwarming and spellbinding continuation of the Owens sisters’ journey, blending magic, family, and love in a timeless cinematic return.
