Harare, August 31, 2025 – Pathum Nissanka produced a masterful batting display, scoring a superb 122 runs, to lead Sri Lanka to a decisive five-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the second and final One-Day International (ODI) at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday. The win allowed Sri Lanka to seal the two-match series 2-0.

Batting first, Zimbabwe posted a competitive total of 277 for seven in their allotted 50 overs. The hosts showed strong intent throughout their innings, capitalizing on home conditions and punishing any loose deliveries from the Sri Lankan bowlers. However, despite the fighting spirit, Sri Lanka’s chase – anchored by Nissanka – proved too strong.

In response, Sri Lanka began cautiously, with openers Nissanka and Nuwanidu Fernando carefully negotiating the early movement. Once settled, Nissanka switched gears, punishing Zimbabwe’s bowlers with 16 exquisite boundaries. Although he had a slice of luck when dropped early, he capitalized fully, steering the innings with composure and flair.

Sadeera Samarawickrama provided valuable support, stitching a crucial partnership that stabilized the innings after two early wickets. In the final stages, skipper Charith Asalanka, battling a hamstring strain, played a determined knock to ensure Sri Lanka crossed the finish line with just three balls to spare.

The result highlighted Sri Lanka’s resilience under pressure, with Nissanka emerging as the standout performer, cementing his place as a key figure in the team’s ODI setup.
