No Respite in Sizzling Heat for Pakistan on July 27

Hot and Humid Weather

Islamabad, July 26, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast hot and very humid weather for most parts of the country on Saturday, July 27, 2024. The relentless heatwave continues to grip the nation, with little relief in sight.

In its daily weather forecast, the Pakistan Met Office indicated that while the majority of the country will experience scorching temperatures and high humidity, there is a chance of rain-windstorm and thundershowers at isolated locations. These areas include Kashmir, northeastern and eastern Punjab, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The PMD mentioned that weak monsoon currents are currently penetrating the central and upper parts of the country, which may lead to these isolated showers.

For Friday, July 26, 2024, similar weather patterns were observed, with hot and humid conditions prevailing across most regions. However, isolated rain-windstorms and thundershowers provided some relief in specific areas, including Kashmir, northeastern Punjab, the Pothohar region, and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during the evening and night.

Past 24 Hours Weather Summary

Over the past 24 hours, Pakistan experienced predominantly hot and very humid weather. Nonetheless, isolated places in Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir received rain-wind/thundershowers.

The recorded rainfall in millimeters (mm) included:

• Punjab: Mandi Bahauddin 67, Lahore (AP 66, City 56), Gujrat 60, Rawalpindi (Chaklala AP 60, Kacheri 27, Shamsabad 04), Sialkot (Airport 23, City 18), Kasur 20, Islamabad (Airport 19, Bokra 19, Golra 11, Zeropoint 07, Saidpur 01), Jhelum 17, Murree 15, Sheikhupura 13, Mangla 12, Gujranwala 03, Narowal, Hafizabad, Bhakkar 01.

• Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Balakot 07, Lower Dir 01.

• Kashmir: Rawalakot 06, Muzaffarabad 04.

Despite these showers, the heat remained intense in many parts of the country. The highest maximum temperatures recorded on Friday were Dalbandin at 47°C, Nokkundi at 46°C, and both Bhakkar and Jacobabad at 44°C.

Outlook and Precautions

As the extreme heat persists, the PMD advises residents to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and wearing light, breathable clothing are essential measures to mitigate the effects of the intense heat.

The forecasted rain-windstorms and thundershowers, though isolated, may provide temporary relief in the affected areas. However, the overall weather pattern suggests continued hot and humid conditions for the majority of the country.

In conclusion, Pakistan braces for another day of sweltering temperatures on July 27, 2024. While some regions may experience brief respite through isolated showers, the persistent heatwave emphasizes the need for caution and preparedness during these extreme weather conditions.
