The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reassured that the country’s coastal regions face no imminent threat from the latest weather disturbance forming over the Arabian Sea.
In its recent advisory, the PMD stated that a well-marked low-pressure system (WML) over the east-central Arabian Sea has intensified into a depression but remains too distant to pose any danger to Pakistan’s coastline.
As per the department’s meteorological assessments, the depression is currently situated near Latitude 15.6N and Longitude 64.8E, approximately 1,060 kilometers southwest of Karachi, 1,080 kilometers south of Ormara, and 1,110 kilometers southeast of Gwadar. The system has been moving in a west-northwestward direction over the past 12 hours, and forecasts suggest that it is likely to continue this trajectory towards the Omani coast, further diminishing any risk to Pakistan.
The PMD further highlighted that squally winds are expected around the system’s center, with speeds of 30-40 kilometers per hour, gusting up to 50 kilometers per hour. These turbulent weather conditions will persist for the next two days, primarily in the central Arabian Sea, away from Pakistan’s maritime zones. Despite the relatively contained nature of this weather system, the PMD has issued advisories urging fishermen to exercise caution and avoid venturing into deep-sea areas where high winds and choppy seas could pose hazards to smaller vessels.
The PMD emphasized that the depression is not expected to evolve into a significant storm or cyclone in the coming days, thus leaving the coastal areas of Pakistan free from immediate peril. Nonetheless, the Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as needed to ensure the safety and preparedness of coastal communities.
This latest development is a reminder of the dynamic weather patterns in the Arabian Sea, where meteorological systems can rapidly change. However, with accurate forecasting and timely advisories from the PMD, authorities remain confident in their ability to mitigate potential risks to Pakistan’s coastal regions. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed and heed any official advisories, although at present, the outlook remains calm and reassuring for the nation’s coastline.
