The Phone (2a) from Nothing, which debuted in March, is already getting an upgrade. The new Phone (2a) Plus enhances the original with a superior chipset, a 50MP selfie camera, and new color options—Metallic Grey and updated Black.
The significant upgrade in the Phone (2a) Plus is the Dimensity 7350 Pro chipset, an overclocked version of the Dimensity 7200 Pro found in the original Phone (2a). Developed in collaboration with MediaTek, this chip features an eight-core CPU with 2x Cortex-A715 cores at 3.0 GHz and 6x Cortex-A510 cores at 2.0 GHz.
The GPU retains the Mali-G610 MC4 but operates at 1.3 GHz. These upgrades promise a 10% increase in CPU performance and a 30% boost in GPU-intensive tasks. However, the Dimensity 7350 Pro supports the same 5G bands as its predecessor, limiting compatibility with US networks.
Another notable enhancement is the new 50MP front-facing camera, replacing the 32MP camera in the Phone (2a). This upgrade supports 4K video recording at up to 30fps and is situated within the punch-hole cutout on the 6.7-inch AMOLED screen (FHD+ 120Hz). The rear cameras remain the same with a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP ultrawide lens.
The Phone (2a) Plus also comes with a 5,000 mAh battery supporting 50W wired charging, a slight upgrade from the 45W on the Phone (2a). On the software front, it runs Nothing OS 2.6 based on Android 14, featuring ChatGPT integration and a new News Reporter Widget that reads news aloud in the voice of Nothing CFO Tim Holbrow. This widget is also available to other Nothing phones via the Nothing Widgets app on the Google Play Store.
The Phone (2a) Plus is priced at $399/£399 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. Pre-orders are available now at nothing.tech. The device will be available at the Nothing Store in Soho, London, starting August 3 at 11 AM BST. In the US, it will be accessible from August 7 at 9 AM ET through Nothing’s US Beta Program.
In India, the Phone (2a) Plus will be priced at INR 27,999 ($334) for the 8GB/256GB model and INR 29,999 ($358) for the 12GB/256GB version, available via Flipkart from August 7. Further market availability will be announced in September.
