Nothing OS 4.0 Open Beta Reaches Phone 3a

Nothing Phone (3)

Nothing has officially released the Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 Open Beta for the Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro, expanding the update rollout that began earlier this month for the Phone (3), Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus.

This new Open Beta introduces a refined user interface, upgraded features, and improved camera performance. One of the key highlights is the new Nothing icon design, bringing a cleaner and more cohesive aesthetic across the user interface.

The update also introduces a “Stretch” Camera preset, created in collaboration with photographer Jordan Hemingway. This mode enhances photos by deepening shadows and extending highlights, delivering a cinematic tone directly through the Camera app.

Another notable addition is Lock Glimpse, a dynamic feature that refreshes the lock screen experience. Lock Glimpse showcases high-quality wallpapers grouped into nine categories, offering “timely updates” and “useful content” to keep users engaged. Nothing has confirmed that a future update will allow users to display personal photos on the lock screen as part of this feature.

The Nothing OS 4.0 Open Beta for the Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro includes all improvements previously introduced to other Nothing devices. However, as a beta release, it may still contain bugs or performance inconsistencies. Therefore, users are advised not to install it on their primary devices.

Those interested in testing the update can visit the official Nothing community page for installation details. Enrollment for the Open Beta program is available until November 7, 2025, after which registrations will close.

With this rollout, Nothing continues its steady commitment to delivering Android 16 and an enhanced software experience across its entire smartphone lineup. The final stable release of Nothing OS 4.0 is expected to follow once all beta testing phases are complete.

Prices:

Nothing Phone (3a): From €308 / $445
