Nothing OS 4.0 Open Beta Released for Select Devices

Nothing Phone (3)

Nothing has officially rolled out the first Open Beta of Nothing OS 4.0, its custom Android skin based on Android 16, offering users an early look at the company’s next major software update.

Announced earlier this month, Nothing OS 4.0 aims to bring smoother performance, refined visuals, and enhanced customization options to Nothing smartphones.

The Open Beta is now available for several models, including the Nothing Phone (3), Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus. However, the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro are currently excluded from this release. Nothing has confirmed that both models will receive their Nothing OS 4.0 update in October.

To participate in the Open Beta, users must first ensure their device is running the latest stable version of Nothing OS. Then, they can download a special APK provided through Nothing’s official community forum. Once installed, a new option called “Nothing Beta Hub” will appear in Settings > System. From there, users can register for the beta program and start the update process by selecting “Go to Update.”

As with any beta software, bugs and instability are expected. Nothing advises users to avoid installing the beta on their primary devices unless they’re comfortable with potential issues. The company also encourages testers to provide feedback directly through Settings > System > Feedback, which will help developers refine the final version before its official release.

The stable version of Nothing OS 4.0 is expected to roll out widely in the coming months, following the feedback phase of the beta program. With its promise of improved performance and deeper Android 16 integration, the update is anticipated to deliver a smoother and more intuitive user experience across Nothing’s lineup.

This beta launch marks another step forward for the company’s growing software ecosystem, giving early adopters a chance to experience Android 16 features ahead of the official release later this year.
