Nothing has officially begun rolling out its highly anticipated Nothing OS 4.0 update, built on Android 16, following an extended period of beta testing.
As expected, the stable release is arriving first for the Nothing Phone (3), with the company confirming that additional Nothing and CMF-branded devices will receive the update at a later stage. However, a precise rollout timeline for other models has not yet been shared.
With Nothing OS 4.0, the Phone (3) gains several exclusive enhancements. These include deeper Flip to Glyph controls, giving users more customization over the device’s signature light interface. Pocket Mode has also been refined for improved accidental touch prevention, while two new Glyph Toys — Hourglass and Lunar Cycle — add fresh visual experiences. Additionally, the Mirror Selfie feature can now save the original photo alongside the mirrored version, offering more flexibility for editing and sharing.
Beyond device-specific additions, the new update introduces a wide range of system-level improvements that will eventually reach other eligible Nothing devices. One of the standout features is Live Updates, which now provide real-time ride, delivery, and timer tracking directly on the lock screen and Glyph Interface. Any app compatible with Android 16’s Live Updates will automatically support Nothing’s expanded Glyph Progress system, significantly increasing app compatibility.
Nothing OS 4.0 also focuses on visual refinements and smoother interactions. Extra Dark Mode receives deeper blacks, better contrast, and lower power consumption. The mode now extends to first-party apps like Essential Space and Launcher, offering a more cohesive appearance. System animations have been enhanced to feel more tactile and responsive, with smoother app transitions, improved notification interactions, and subtle haptic feedback when volume limits are reached.
Home screen customization also sees upgrades with new 1×1 and 2×1 widget sizes for Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time. Pop-up View now supports two floating apps simultaneously, and Hidden Icons allow users to maintain a clean App Drawer while keeping important apps accessible.
As with all major rollouts, the update is being pushed out in stages. Nothing Phone (3) users who haven’t yet received a notification can expect it to arrive within the coming days as the rollout continues.
