Nothing Unveils First Affordable Smartphone: CMF Phone 1

Nothing has unveiled its inaugural smartphone under the budget-friendly CMF brand. The CMF Phone 1, which stands out for its user-swappable back panel and robust Mediatek 7300 chipset, aims to offer a blend of affordability and functionality.

The CMF Phone 1 is priced competitively, starting at INR 15,999 for the 6/128 GB variant, available exclusively in India. The 8/128 GB model will be accessible in all markets where Nothing operates, priced at INR 17,999/£209/€239. The top-tier 8/256 GB version, costing £239/€279, will not be available in India. In the US, the device will be offered through Nothing’s “US Beta Program.”

Available in Black, Orange, Blue, and Mint Green, the CMF Phone 1 also supports various accessories like a stand, lanyard, or card case, each priced at £19. A new rear panel costs £29.

The CMF Phone 1 boasts a 6.67″ Super AMOLED display, delivering Full HD+ resolution with a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. This display supports a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 240 Hz touch sampling rate, ensuring smooth and responsive interactions.

For selfies, the device features a 16 MP camera housed in a punch-hole cutout, and an under-display fingerprint scanner adds to the phone’s sleek design.

On the rear, the CMF Phone 1 is equipped with a 50 MP f/1.8 main camera, complemented by a 2 MP depth sensor, catering to photography enthusiasts seeking quality and depth in their shots.

Design is a focal point for the CMF lineup, and the Phone 1 introduces innovative features. The back panel is designed with a mounting point for various accessories, and it is easily replaceable, allowing users to switch colors or replace damaged panels effortlessly. This design not only adds aesthetic flexibility but also promotes longevity through easier repairs.

The CMF Phone 1 operates on Nothing OS 2.6, layered over Android 14, and includes personalization options such as an AI Wallpaper Generator. It promises two years of major Android updates and three years of security updates, ensuring sustained performance and security.

Powering the device is a 5,000 mAh battery, supporting 33W wired charging and 5W reverse wired charging, though it lacks wireless charging. It carries an IPX2 certification for water resistance, capable of withstanding light water exposure. Nothing has tested its durability to endure submersion in 25 cm of water for three seconds.

The CMF Phone 1 will be available for purchase on cmf.tech and Amazon, with the launch date to be announced soon.
