NSC authorizes Armed Forces to respond to Indian aggression

Islamabad, May 7, 2025 — The National Security Committee (NSC) of Pakistan, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, has authorized the Armed Forces to respond decisively to India’s unprovoked military aggression.

The committee, which met in an emergency session today, condemned India’s overnight coordinated missile, drone, and air strikes as a blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and a deliberate act of war.

The forum opened with prayers (Fateha) for the innocent civilians martyred in the attacks and expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, along with wishes for the swift recovery of the injured. The NSC reviewed the grave situation following Indian strikes on multiple civilian locations, including Sialkot, Shakargarh, Muridke, and Bahawalpur in Punjab, as well as Kotli and Muzaffarabad in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the NSC, these attacks were launched under a fabricated pretext of targeting imaginary terrorist camps. The deliberate targeting of civilian areas—including homes, mosques, and public infrastructure—led to numerous casualties, including women and children. The strikes also endangered international commercial flight paths, particularly aircraft belonging to Gulf nations, placing thousands of lives at risk.

The Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project, a critical civilian energy installation, was also struck in a move the NSC described as a direct violation of international humanitarian and environmental law.

The NSC rejected Indian allegations outright, reiterating that Pakistan had invited international media for an open and transparent inspection of the alleged sites on May 6 and 7. The forum criticized India’s refusal to engage in an impartial investigation, branding its actions as politically motivated and morally bankrupt.

Emphasizing that Pakistan has the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, the NSC authorized the Armed Forces to carry out retaliatory measures at a time and place of their choosing. The Pakistan military has already responded defensively by downing five Indian fighter jets and drones during the attacks.

“The entire Pakistani nation stands united behind its Armed Forces. The bravery shown by our soldiers in defending the homeland is a matter of great pride,” the statement read.

The NSC urged the international community to recognize the gravity of India’s unlawful actions and called for accountability under international law. Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to peace, but declared that any future violation of its sovereignty would meet a firm and proportionate response.
