Islamabad, September 29, 2025 – The Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) has announced a milestone achievement with five successful oil and gas discoveries during the fiscal year 2024–25.

This breakthrough highlights Pakistan’s vast potential in hydrocarbon reserves and underscores the critical role of domestic exploration in ensuring energy security.

Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, chaired a high-level meeting at the OGDC headquarters, where he was briefed by the company’s Managing Director, Ahmed Hayat Lak, and senior executives. The session focused on OGDC’s operational progress, its production optimization strategy, and ongoing initiatives to reduce the natural decline of mature hydrocarbon fields.

The Minister was informed that OGDC has been actively pursuing enhanced recovery techniques, alongside adopting innovative exploration practices to sustain production levels. Ali Pervaiz Malik appreciated the company’s efforts and reaffirmed that indigenization of the energy sector is central to the government’s strategy. “Our Exploration & Production (E&P) companies are working diligently to secure Pakistan’s energy future, and OGDC is at the forefront of this mission,” he stated.

He emphasized that strengthening governance and improving operational efficiency are essential for the petroleum sector’s long-term sustainability. The Minister pledged full government support for reforms, promising facilitation to enable E&P companies to attract fresh investment and operate at maximum capacity.

The OGDC Managing Director expressed gratitude for the government’s commitment to reform, noting that the seriousness of intent provides much-needed clarity and confidence. He stressed that such collaboration between policymakers and industry players is vital for achieving national energy self-sufficiency.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to maintain close coordination between the Ministry of Petroleum and OGDC, with a shared resolve to overcome sectoral challenges, accelerate exploration, and unlock Pakistan’s untapped energy potential. Officials highlighted that these new discoveries not only enhance the country’s resource base but also reduce reliance on costly energy imports, thereby contributing to economic stability.
