OGDCL announces gas discovery at Sial-1 Well in Sindh

KARACHI – The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant discovery of gas condensate from its Sial-1 exploratory well located in the Hyderabad district of Sindh. This development marks a notable milestone in the company’s ongoing drive to enhance domestic hydrocarbon exploration.

In a formal notice to both the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) and the London Stock Exchange (LSE) on Tuesday, OGDCL stated that the Sial-1 well was drilled and tested utilizing the company’s in-house expertise and technical capabilities.

According to the announcement, the well was drilled to a depth of 2,442 meters. Based on wireline logs and testing data, the well produced 1.146 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas along with 680 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate. These results were achieved through a 32/64” choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of approximately 460 psi, from the Lower Goru Formation—one of the most promising gas-bearing formations in the region.

OGDCL holds a dominant 95% working interest in the Sial-1 well, with the remaining 5% owned by Government Holdings (Private) Limited. The company emphasized that this discovery is a direct outcome of its aggressive and targeted exploration strategy.

“The Sial-1 gas discovery represents not only a significant addition to OGDCL’s resource portfolio but also enhances the gas supply potential for the country,” the company stated. “It opens a new avenue for exploration and will bolster the hydrocarbon reserves of OGDCL, its joint venture partners, and ultimately the nation.”

This gas find is expected to contribute positively toward narrowing the persistent demand and supply gap in Pakistan’s energy sector. By tapping into indigenous gas resources, OGDCL aims to reduce the country’s reliance on expensive imported fuels, helping to stabilize the energy market.

OGDCL reaffirmed its commitment to continue focused exploration and development efforts across the country to ensure sustainable growth in gas production and energy self-sufficiency for Pakistan.
