The Sindh-based exploratory well is producing 7 million cubic feet of gas and 200 barrels of condensate daily, strengthening Pakistan’s indigenous energy supplies.
Karachi: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has commenced gas and condensate production from its Bitrism East-1 exploratory well in Khairpur district, Sindh, marking progress in developing Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon resources.
The well is currently producing 7.0 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) and 200 barrels of condensate daily from the Basal Sands. Output is expected to increase gradually as the well’s flow stabilises.
OGDCL announced the discovery on October 1, 2025, in the Massive and Basal Sands of the Lower Goru Formation.
To bring the discovery into production, the company deployed its in-house resources to construct an approximately 28-kilometre, eight-inch-diameter flowline connecting the well to the Sinjhoro Plant for processing.
The processed gas is now being supplied to the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network, contributing to Pakistan’s indigenous gas supplies.
OGDCL operates the Bitrism Exploration Licence with a 77.5 per cent working interest, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds the remaining 22.5 per cent.
The start of production reflects OGDCL’s efforts to accelerate the development of hydrocarbon discoveries and improve domestic energy availability. Increased indigenous production could help support Pakistan’s energy security and reduce reliance on imported energy resources.
The company expects output to rise as production stabilises, potentially adding further volumes to the country’s local gas supply.
