OGDCL Discovers Gas, Condensate at Soghri Well in Attock

Karachi, March 17, 2025 – Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has made a significant gas and condensate discovery at the Soghri North-1 well in the Soghri Block, located in Attock District, Punjab.

This discovery further strengthens OGDCL’s position as the leading exploration and production company in Pakistan.

OGDCL Confirms Major Discovery in Soghri Block

In a communication to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), OGDCL announced that it is the sole operator of the Soghri Exploration License, holding a 100% working interest in the block. The discovery was made as part of the company’s exploratory drilling campaign, aimed at boosting Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon reserves.

The Soghri North-1 well was spudded on May 21, 2024, as an exploratory well and drilled to a depth of 4,942 meters in the Patala Formation. Following extensive testing and analysis of wireline logs, OGDCL conducted a cased hole Drill Stem Test (DST-1) in the Chorgali-Sakesar-Nammal-Patala Formations.

The well has now successfully flowed 13.95 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas along with 430 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate. The testing was performed through a 32/64” choke size, with a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 2,890 PSI from the Chorgali and Sakesar Formations.

Soghri Discovery to Boost Pakistan’s Energy Reserves

This gas and condensate discovery at Soghri North-1 is expected to play a key role in enhancing Pakistan’s energy security. By adding to OGDCL’s hydrocarbon reserves, this find will help bridge the country’s growing energy demand and supply gap through indigenous resources, reducing reliance on energy imports.

Furthermore, the successful results at Soghri North-1 will encourage OGDCL to intensify exploration activities within the Soghri Block, increasing confidence in the area’s hydrocarbon potential. The company is committed to advancing further exploratory efforts in the Soghri Exploration License to unlock additional reserves.

This latest discovery aligns with OGDCL’s long-term strategy of enhancing Pakistan’s energy independence through domestic resource exploration. The company remains focused on sustained hydrocarbon exploration, ensuring a steady supply of natural gas and condensate for Pakistan’s economic growth.
