Karachi, December 24, 2024 – The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully revived hydrocarbon production from the Dars West-2 Well by tapping into a new interval, the B-Sand of the Lower Goru Formation. This significant milestone showcases OGDCL’s innovative approach and its commitment to enhancing hydrocarbon recovery through advanced, rigless interventions.
In a statement to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), OGDCL highlighted that the Dars West-2 Well, initially completed in the C-Sand of the Lower Goru Formation, had been integrated into the production system on January 31, 2024. However, following a decline in wellhead pressure, the well ceased production on September 24, 2024.
Detailed analysis, including a Bottom Hole Pressure & Temperature (BHP&T) survey, revealed no further production potential in the C-Sand interval. Acting swiftly, OGDCL isolated the depleted C-Sand and perforated the B-Sand interval, successfully bringing the well back online.
Currently, the Dars West-2 Well is producing 200 barrels per day (BPD) of oil, 8.0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas, and 37 metric tons per day (MTD) of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The gas output is being processed at OGDCL’s Kunnar Pasakhi Deep-Tando Allah Yar Plant and seamlessly integrated into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) network, ensuring a steady contribution to the national energy supply.
Located in Sindh’s Tando Allah Yar district, the Dars West-2 Well lies within the Dars West Development and Production Lease (D7PL). OGDCL operates the field with a 77.5% working interest, while the Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) holds a 22.5% carried interest.
This revival underscores OGDCL’s expertise in optimizing production from mature wells. By leveraging innovative technologies, OGDCL continues to play a pivotal role in bolstering Pakistan’s domestic energy output. The success of the Dars West-2 Well is yet another testament to OGDCL’s strategic focus on maximizing resource recovery and reinforcing its position as the nation’s leading exploration and production company.
