Karachi, August 19, 2024 – In a significant development for Pakistan’s energy sector, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced the discovery of gas from the Razgir-1 Exploratory Well located in the Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The discovery, made public on Monday, is expected to bolster the country’s indigenous hydrocarbon supply and enhance its energy reserves.
In a communication shared with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), OGDCL revealed that the Razgir-1 well, which was drilled as part of the TAL Joint Venture, has successfully yielded gas condensate from the Lockhart formation. The well, situated in the TAL Block, comprises multiple stakeholders, with OGDCL holding a 30% working interest, MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Co. B.V. as the operator with 10%, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) with 25%, and Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL) with a 5% interest.
The well was spudded on January 9, 2024, and drilling reached a total depth of 3,778.98 meters True Vertical Depth (TVD). Based on wireline logs data interpretation, the Lockhart Formation, the exploratory target, was successfully tested. After post-acid stimulation, the formation is now producing gas at a rate of approximately 17.9 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) and 153 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate. The test was conducted with a choke size of 40/64” and a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 2,017 pounds per square inch (Psi).
This discovery marks a significant milestone for the TAL Joint Venture, further boosting the cumulative production from the Lumshiwai, Kawagarh, and Lockhart formations at the Razgir-1 well. As of the latest updates, total production from these formations has reached 54.3 MMSCFD of gas and 563 BPD of condensate.
OGDCL emphasized that the latest discovery has mitigated risks associated with further exploration in the TAL Block, unlocking new opportunities for future upside potential. The company is collaborating closely with MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Co. B.V. to expedite the monetization of the Razgir Well discovery, which is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing Pakistan’s hydrocarbon reserves.
This discovery is a significant step forward in securing Pakistan’s energy future, contributing to the country’s efforts to increase its self-reliance in hydrocarbon resources and reduce dependency on imports.
