Islamabad, March 4, 2026 – The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Wednesday dismissed concerns about a fuel crisis, assuring citizens that Pakistan has sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel and that there is no shortage of petroleum products in the country.
The clarification came shortly after the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association (APPPOA) wrote to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, seeking intervention to prevent what it termed a potential artificial fuel shortage.
APPPOA Alleges Quota Restrictions by OMCs
In its letter, APPPOA accused oil marketing companies (OMCs) of imposing supply quotas amid the ongoing Gulf crisis. The association claimed that some OMCs were either limiting product deliveries or restricting supplies to such an extent that retail fuel stations were struggling to meet public demand.
The association warned that continued restrictions could result in dry fuel stations and inconvenience for consumers across the country.
OGRA Reassures Public Over Fuel Availability
Responding to the claims, an OGRA spokesperson said the country currently holds adequate stocks of petrol and diesel, well within the required limits.
“The public is reassured that the country currently holds adequate stocks of petrol and diesel,” the spokesperson stated, urging citizens to avoid rumors and rely solely on official sources for updates.
The regulator explained that during periods of extreme price volatility, OMCs may temporarily regulate supplies to retail outlets based on historical sales data. According to OGRA, this is a standard supply management practice aimed at preventing hoarding and ensuring stability in the fuel distribution system.
Government Reviews Energy Supply Situation
Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired a high-level meeting of a committee constituted by the prime minister to monitor petrol prices and assess the evolving regional situation.
The minister reiterated that uninterrupted availability of petroleum products remains the government’s top priority. He noted that the committee is monitoring developments daily and stands ready to take coordinated measures to safeguard national energy security and maintain domestic market stability.
During the meeting, participants reviewed petroleum stock levels and supply chains nationwide. Officials briefed the committee on available stocks of crude oil and refined products, including petrol, diesel, aviation fuels, and LPG, along with their respective days of cover and daily consumption patterns.
The government maintained that despite regional uncertainties, fuel supply conditions across Pakistan remain stable.
