Islamabad, March 10, 2026 – The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Tuesday strongly rejected circulating reports claiming that petrol and diesel prices would be increased significantly in Pakistan.

In a statement, the regulator clarified that no summary recommending a petrol price hike of Rs73.40 per liter or a diesel increase of Rs84.95 per liter had been sent to Shehbaz Sharif for approval.

OGRA’s spokesperson termed the claims being shared on social media as “completely baseless and misleading.” The authority urged the public to avoid relying on unverified information circulating online and to depend only on official announcements from relevant government institutions.

The clarification came after widespread speculation on social media suggested that the government was preparing to implement another steep increase in petroleum product prices.

Last week, the federal government raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs55 per liter each, citing sharp volatility in global oil markets. The move followed rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that pushed international crude oil prices higher and increased pressure on domestic fuel costs.

Although OGRA has dismissed the latest rumors, officials have acknowledged that international oil price fluctuations remain a key factor in determining domestic fuel rates in Pakistan.

Analysts say continued uncertainty in global energy markets could influence future petroleum price adjustments. However, any change in petrol or diesel prices will only be announced through official notifications issued by the government after regulatory review and approval.

Authorities have advised citizens to verify fuel price information through official government channels before sharing or acting on reports circulating on social media.
