Fans eagerly waiting for House of the Dragon Season 3 may have to adjust their expectations, as actress Olivia Cooke has shared disappointing news about the highly anticipated HBO series.
Cooke, best known for her role as Alicent Hightower, recently revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the third season won’t be releasing anytime soon.
In recent weeks, speculation had grown that production was nearing completion, raising hopes for an earlier-than-expected premiere. However, Cooke clarified that filming for the new season is still ongoing and will not wrap up until October 2025. After that, the series will head into an extensive post-production process.
According to the report, Cooke is set to return to the set in late August, with filming scheduled to continue for several months before the official wrap in mid-October. Given the scale of visual effects and editing involved, post-production is expected to take many months.
For reference, House of the Dragon Season 2 was filmed between April and September 2023 but did not premiere until June 2024, marking a gap of over eight months between the end of filming and release. If HBO follows a similar timeline this time, fans may not see Season 3 before June 2026.
Despite the wait, Cooke assured fans that the upcoming season will deliver the fiery action and epic clashes viewers have been anticipating. “They’ll get that for sure,” she said, adding, “No worries about all the big fighty, fighty, dragon, dragon stuff.”
The fantasy drama, based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, first premiered on August 21, 2022, and quickly became a global success. With its mix of political intrigue, family rivalries, and breathtaking dragon battles, the series has solidified itself as a worthy successor to Game of Thrones.
While the wait may be longer than fans hoped, Cooke’s remarks confirm that House of the Dragon Season 3 will deliver the high-stakes drama and dragon-fueled battles that audiences crave—even if patience is required.
