Grammy winner surprises fans with live debut of new track featuring The Cure frontman at Primavera Sound
Pop star Olivia Rodrigo has unveiled her first-ever official collaboration, teaming up with legendary musician Robert Smith during a surprise performance at Primavera Sound on Saturday, June 6.
The 23-year-old Grammy winner introduced a new track titled what’s wrong with me, which will feature on her upcoming third studio album you seem so sad for a girl so in love, set for release on June 12.
During the surprise set, Smith joined Rodrigo on stage, performing alongside her as fans witnessed the unexpected collaboration live for the first time.
Following the performance, Rodrigo shared a clip on Instagram, expressing her admiration for Smith and reflecting on the experience.
“I am still in disbelief that Robert who is in my eyes one of the most brilliant, legendary, wonderful people to ever exist is on this record with me,” she wrote.
She added that performing the song together at Primavera was “the most memorable evening” and expressed excitement ahead of the album’s release, noting that it would be available in just a few days.
The upcoming record has already generated attention, with two singles released ahead of the album launch. The lead single Drop Dead (stylised in lowercase) was released on April 17, followed by The Cure, the second single, which shares its title with Smith’s iconic band, The Cure.
While fans will have to wait for the studio version of what’s wrong with me, the live debut has intensified anticipation for what marks a significant new phase in Rodrigo’s evolving sound and artistic direction.
