Pop star Olivia Rodrigo has shared the one album she listens to whenever she feels creatively stuck or disconnected from herself, revealing that Alanis Morissette’s iconic 1995 record Jagged Little Pill plays a special role in her life.

Rodrigo opened up about the deeply personal connection during an appearance on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s podcast Music Makes Us. During the conversation, host Kathleen Hanna asked the Guts singer if there was an album she revisits when she needs to reconnect with her identity and creative instincts.

“Honestly, I listen to Jagged Little Pill when I’m feeling like I don’t know what to say or who I am,” Rodrigo said. She explained that the album captures “every part of what makes a human being a human being,” describing it as emotionally raw and universally relatable.

The Grammy-winning artist praised the record for its powerful mix of emotions, noting that it balances anger, jealousy, and spite with joy and hope in a way that feels authentic and beautifully intertwined. “I f—ing love that album, as everyone on the planet does,” she added, saying it reminds her of the kind of honesty she strives for in her own songwriting.

Rodrigo also highlighted Morissette’s vulnerability as the album’s greatest strength. “It’s her being herself and letting it all pour out,” she said, adding that as a songwriter, she finds it inspiring when music feels like something the artist needed to say, rather than something created purely for commercial success.

Describing Jagged Little Pill as “a diary in the best way,” Rodrigo emphasized how authenticity continues to shape her creative process.

On the personal front, the Deja Vu singer is currently dating actor Louis Partridge, and remains focused on her music as she draws inspiration from artists who came before her.
