OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Finance, Needs Bank Account Connection

ChatGPT AI

OpenAI has launched a new feature called ChatGPT Finance, allowing users to connect their bank accounts directly with the chatbot for personalized financial insights and money management tools.

The feature is currently available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States and is accessible through the web version and iOS app. The move marks a major expansion of ChatGPT’s capabilities beyond traditional AI conversations into personal finance management.

ChatGPT Can Analyze Spending and Savings

With the new finance integration, users can link accounts from more than 12,000 financial institutions through a partnership with Plaid, a popular financial connection platform.

Once connected, ChatGPT provides users with a dashboard showing portfolio performance, spending habits, recurring subscriptions, and upcoming payments. The chatbot can also answer questions about budgeting, savings plans, and financial decisions using data from the user’s actual accounts.

According to OpenAI, the goal is to make financial planning easier by offering more personalized responses based on real financial information.

Bank Connections Can Be Managed Anytime

OpenAI stated that users will remain in control of their financial data. Account connections can be removed at any time, and users can also view or delete financial memories stored by ChatGPT.

To activate the feature, users need to open the “Finances” option available in the ChatGPT sidebar. The company said the rollout is initially limited to Pro users in the US market.

OpenAI Expands ChatGPT’s Financial Capabilities

OpenAI revealed that more than 200 million people already ask ChatGPT finance-related questions every month. The company believes the new banking integration will improve the accuracy and usefulness of financial guidance by giving the chatbot more contextual information.

However, the development also raises privacy and data security concerns, as users may hesitate to share sensitive banking information with an AI platform despite security controls and account management tools.

The launch of ChatGPT Finance reflects the growing competition among AI companies to expand chatbot capabilities into productivity, business, and personal finance services.
