OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Go Globally, Begins Ads Testing

OpenAI has officially expanded its low-cost ChatGPT Go subscription to users worldwide, marking a major step in making AI tools more accessible.

Initially launched in India in August last year at a price of INR 399 per month, ChatGPT Go has now been rolled out to 170 countries and is available in all markets where ChatGPT operates, including the United States.

In the US, ChatGPT Go is priced at $8 per month, positioning it as a more affordable alternative to OpenAI’s higher-tier plans. For comparison, ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month, while the premium ChatGPT Pro subscription is priced at $200 per month. OpenAI has made detailed pricing and feature comparisons available on its official website, allowing users to choose a plan that best fits their needs.

Alongside the global launch of ChatGPT Go, OpenAI has also announced plans to begin testing advertisements on ChatGPT in the United States in the coming weeks. The ads will be shown only to logged-in adult users on the Free and Go tiers. Importantly, OpenAI confirmed that its Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscriptions will remain completely ad-free.

According to OpenAI, ads will not influence ChatGPT’s responses. Sponsored content will always be clearly labeled and displayed separately from organic AI-generated answers. The company also emphasized that user conversations will remain private and will not be shared with advertisers, addressing potential concerns around data privacy.

During the testing phase, ads are expected to appear at the bottom of ChatGPT responses when there is a relevant sponsored product or service connected to the user’s query. OpenAI also revealed that users may be able to interact with ads by asking follow-up questions to help make purchasing decisions, creating a more conversational ad experience.

OpenAI stated that user feedback will play a key role in refining how ads appear over time. The company stressed that maintaining user trust remains a top priority as it experiments with new revenue streams.

The move reflects OpenAI’s broader strategy to diversify its revenue model while keeping AI intelligence affordable and widely accessible. With strong subscription and enterprise businesses already in place, OpenAI believes ads can help support long-term growth without compromising user experience.
