Overseas Pakistanis can now enjoy tax-free mobile registration for up to 120 days during each visit to Pakistan, under the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) policy.
This initiative is aimed at facilitating short-term stays and improving digital access for non-resident Pakistanis.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is offering this service through its free and automated Temporary Mobile Registration System.
The facility is accessible via the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) portal, enabling overseas visitors to register their mobile phones without paying any tax or duty for a period of four months per visit.
This user-friendly registration process allows overseas Pakistanis to use their personal mobile devices on local networks without disruption during their stay. Once the 120-day period ends, the same individual can re-apply for tax-free usage on subsequent visits, provided they exit and re-enter the country.
According to PTA, this system is designed to ensure uninterrupted mobile connectivity for international visitors and overseas Pakistanis. It reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to promote ease of access and digital inclusion.
To register a mobile device, eligible users must log in to the DIRBS portal (https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs), select the temporary registration option, and provide necessary travel documents, such as a passport and valid visa or entry stamp. The process is fully automated and typically does not require any manual intervention.
The policy has been well-received by overseas Pakistanis, who frequently face issues with blocked or unregistered devices during short visits. The 120-day tax-free mobile registration not only removes a financial burden but also encourages smoother communication for work, travel, and personal purposes.
This initiative by FBR and PTA highlights Pakistan’s commitment to digital transformation and the facilitation of overseas nationals. The Temporary Mobile Registration System offers a practical solution that benefits both visitors and the country’s broader efforts toward improved digital infrastructure.
