Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, famously known as the “Prince of Darkness” and iconic frontman of Black Sabbath, has left behind a surprising confession following his death on July 22.
While the heavy metal pioneer was celebrated for his rebellious image, he privately held deep admiration for pop superstar Taylor Swift.
This revelation comes despite a tongue-in-cheek remark Ozzy made at the 2014 Grammy Awards that left fans puzzled. At the 56th annual ceremony, Osbourne, alongside Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, accepted the Best Metal Performance award for God Is Dead from their album 13.
When asked if he was a Taylor Swift fan, Ozzy first confirmed, “Yes, I am a big fan of Taylor Swift,” before quickly adding with a smirk, “Who the f**k is Taylor Swift?”
At the time, Swift’s blockbuster album 1989 was dominating the Billboard 200, holding the No. 1 spot for 11 weeks and producing three chart-topping singles. Many assumed Ozzy’s comment was a joke, especially considering his prior encounter with the pop star.
Sharon Osbourne later revealed that Ozzy, she, and their daughter Kelly met Taylor in Los Angeles. Following the meeting, Ozzy praised her, saying, “Finally, out of all the young, new artists, I’ve found one that is a true superstar.” He admired her “aura of elegance” and “pure, genuine talent,” likening her to Hollywood icons Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.
Taylor Swift, now preparing for the October 3 release of her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl, has not publicly responded to the revelation. The 12-track record, which includes a duet with Sabrina Carpenter, was written during her Eras Tour.
“This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour,” Swift shared, describing it as “exuberant, electric, and vibrant.”
Ozzy Osbourne’s unexpected admiration for Swift offers fans a softer glimpse into the rock icon’s personality—a reminder that even the Prince of Darkness could appreciate the artistry of pop’s brightest star.
