Islamabad, July 18, 2025 – Pak Suzuki Motor Company has voiced serious concerns over the potential consequences of allowing the import of used vehicles into Pakistan.
The matter was raised during a high-level meeting between Suzuki officials and the Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce, where challenges faced by the local automotive sector were discussed in detail.
The Chief Executive Officer of Pak Suzuki emphasized that opening Pakistan’s market to imported used vehicles, especially for commercial use, could have far-reaching consequences for the domestic auto industry. According to the company’s leadership, an unchecked influx of used vehicles could undermine the local manufacturing sector, compromise vehicle quality standards, and ultimately harm customer welfare.
Suzuki representatives warned that used car imports could result in an oversupply of outdated or inferior vehicles in the market, which may not comply with local safety and environmental regulations. They argued that the decision could erode consumer trust in the automotive industry and affect long-term investments made by manufacturers like Suzuki, which has a longstanding presence in Pakistan.
In response, senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce acknowledged the concerns raised by Suzuki and assured that all stakeholders would be consulted before making any amendments to the Import Policy Order. The ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding customer interests while maintaining a level playing field for local and international players.
During the meeting, Suzuki officials were also invited to submit their proposals for the upcoming National Tariff Policy 2025–2030. The Ministry assured that all genuine concerns and suggestions from the industry would be considered in the formulation of future policies.
The Ministry of Commerce reaffirmed its dedication to fostering a competitive and investor-friendly environment for the auto sector, emphasizing that a balanced approach would be maintained to protect both consumer rights and industrial growth.
As one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the country, Suzuki continues to play a pivotal role in the Pakistani automotive market. The outcome of this policy debate could significantly shape the future of local vehicle production and consumer options.
