ANTIGUA: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has unveiled a 15-member squad for the two-match Test series against Pakistan, slated to be held from January 17 to 29, 2025, at the Multan Cricket Stadium. This announcement, made on Monday, marks the West Indies’ first Test series in Pakistan in 18 years and serves as the concluding chapter of the current World Test Championship cycle.
The squad sees the much-anticipated return of left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, who missed the recent drawn series against Bangladesh due to injury. Another notable inclusion is emerging talent Amir Jangoo, the left-handed batter who earned his maiden Test call-up after an impressive century on his ODI debut earlier this month.
Multan Cricket Stadium will host both matches, as Karachi was ruled out of contention for the series opener due to ongoing renovations at the National Stadium in preparation for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
West Indies head coach Andre Coley highlighted the significance of the series, emphasizing its role in the team’s development. “This series against Pakistan is a crucial opportunity to build upon the progress we made in 2024 and to translate those learnings into tangible results. Gudakesh Motie adds strength to our spin options, while Amir Jangoo’s selection reflects his consistency and ability to handle spin effectively,” Coley stated.
The West Indies squad will arrive in Islamabad on January 6, before heading to Rawalpindi for a two-day warm-up match against Pakistan Shaheens on January 10 and 11. Following this, the team will travel to Multan to prepare for the highly anticipated Test matches.
