Pakistan accepts all applications without balloting for Hajj 2023

Pakistan on Monday decided to accept all applications without conducting a balloting under Hajj Scheme 2023

The country made decision at a meeting of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet.

The ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, approved new modalities for Hajj scheme 2023, under which all received applications i-e 72,869 under Regular Hajj Scheme are considered successful without balloting for performing Hajj this year.

The country had received the applications for Hajj 2023 up till March 31, 2023 under the government’s regular scheme quota of 44,190.

Previously, the Secretary of Religious Affairs at a meeting reported that the deadline for Hajj-2023 applications was March 31, 2023, and 72,869 applications were received in the banks against the government’s regular scheme quota of 44,190.

The meeting was held at the Finance Division a day earlier, chaired by Federal Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, to assess the progress of the Hajj Scheme-2023.

Attendees included Mufti Abdul Shakoor, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs & Interfaith Harmony, SAPM on Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha, Secretary Religious Affairs, Special Secretary Finance, and senior officers from the Finance and Religious Affairs Ministries.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the Hajj-2023 and discussed related matters.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs & Interfaith Harmony also provided information on its foreign exchange requirements for the Holy Hajj-2023.

The Chair desired that the banks provide complete and fully reconciled information regarding the final number of applications received under the Regular Scheme by Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

Once complete information is received, the government will review and determine the final number of intended applicants for the Regular Hajj Scheme-2023.
