Pakistan has recorded a significant rise in digital connectivity, with more than 96% of households now having access to mobile or smartphone facilities, according to the latest ICT findings released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) under the Household Integrated Economic Survey (HIES) 2024-25.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has welcomed the report, describing it as a strong indicator of the country’s growing digital inclusion and improving technology accessibility.

The survey highlights that over 70% of households across Pakistan are currently using internet services — a remarkable jump from just 34% in 2019. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has emerged as the leading region in household-level digital access at 77%, reflecting steady progress in connectivity expansion across both urban and rural areas.

PTA noted that these achievements demonstrate the Government of Pakistan’s continued efforts toward enhancing network coverage, improving service availability, and ensuring better affordability of smartphones and internet packages. The regulator emphasized that sustained policy initiatives and infrastructure investments have played a key role in expanding nationwide digital access.

At the individual level (aged 10+), the report shows encouraging growth in technology adoption. Mobile and smartphone ownership has increased from 45% in 2019 to 50% in 2025, while an impressive 92% of individuals across the country now use mobile phones. Internet usage at the individual level has also risen sharply — from 17% in 2019 to 57% in 2025 — signaling stronger digital participation among citizens.

The survey further reveals promising trends in gender inclusion. Overall internet usage among individuals is reported to be nearly equal, with female usage in urban areas reaching 71% compared to 67% among men. This indicates growing digital empowerment and greater online participation among women, particularly in metropolitan regions.

In addition to rising connectivity indicators, the report highlights improvements in digital awareness, online safety practices, and user capability development. PTA congratulated PBS on publishing the HIES 2024-25 findings, stating that the ICT indicators provide an essential evidence base for future policymaking, regulatory planning, and digital transformation initiatives.

The telecom regulator reaffirmed its commitment to supporting inclusive digital growth, strengthening connectivity infrastructure, and advancing Pakistan’s journey toward a more connected and digitally empowered society.
