Pakistan aim to clinch ODI series against South Africa in Faisalabad showdown

Pakistan World Cup

Faisalabad, November 5, 2025 – Pakistan will look to seal the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against South Africa when the two sides meet in the second ODI at the Iqbal Stadium on November 6, 2025.

The hosts lead the series 1-0 after a thrilling win in the opening match, marking the return of international cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years and giving Shaheen Afridi a victorious start as Pakistan’s full-time ODI captain.

In the first ODI, Pakistan successfully chased down the highest-ever total in Faisalabad’s ODI history, though the finish turned tense. Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha played crucial knocks to steady the innings, while Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, and Babar Azam will aim to convert their starts into big scores this time. Afridi and Naseem Shah struggled to make early breakthroughs, something the bowling attack will look to improve, with Abrar Ahmed and Saim Ayub expected to play key roles on a spin-friendly surface.

For South Africa, there were positives despite the loss. Quinton de Kock returned to form with a solid 63, while debutant Lhuan-dre Pretorius impressed with a composed half-century. With Dewald Brevis ruled out due to a shoulder strain, the Proteas will depend on Tony de Zorzi, Donovan Ferreira, and skipper Matthew Breetzke to anchor their batting. Corbin Bosch, who contributed with both bat and ball, along with Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams, will be crucial in the bowling department.

As both teams prepare for Thursday’s clash, Pakistan will be eyeing a series-clinching win, while South Africa will fight to force a decider in the final ODI.
