Pakistan and Australia discuss cricket tour and illegal immigration cooperation

Islamabad, November 28, 2025 – Pakistan and Australia held high-level discussions on Friday focusing on curbing illegal immigration and the upcoming visit of the Australian cricket team to Pakistan.

The virtual meeting brought together Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Australia’s Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke, where both sides addressed a wide range of issues concerning bilateral security cooperation and shared interests.

Focus on Illegal Immigration

Both ministers agreed on the importance of enhanced collaboration to prevent illegal immigration. They emphasized coordinated efforts, information sharing, and capacity building, including the launch of training programs for Pakistan’s police and paramilitary officers.

Security and Law Enforcement Cooperation

The discussions also explored strengthening ties between Australia’s security agencies and Pakistan’s National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency as well as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). A major outcome of the meeting was the decision to establish a Joint Working Group to further bilateral cooperation in security and law enforcement.

Australian Cricket Team Tour

Minister Naqvi updated Minister Burke on the security arrangements for the upcoming Australian cricket tour to Pakistan, assuring that comprehensive measures are in place to ensure a safe and successful visit.

Both leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with Minister Naqvi inviting his Australian counterpart to visit Pakistan in the near future.

This meeting underscores Pakistan and Australia’s shared focus on security, law enforcement, and sports diplomacy, paving the way for closer cooperation in multiple sectors.
