Islamabad, September 18, 2025 – Pakistan and Iran have taken another step forward in deepening cooperation in the agriculture sector, as Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met with Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, Minister for Agriculture Jihad of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The meeting highlighted both nations’ intent to boost bilateral trade and enhance food security through sustainable agricultural initiatives.
During the discussions, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to implement the decisions of the Joint Committee on Agriculture Cooperation. They also agreed to ease procedures for the import and export of agricultural commodities, building upon understandings reached during the recent visit of Pakistan’s Minister for National Food Security to Iran.
As part of the new arrangements, the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad announced it will send a high-level delegation to Pakistan within the next two weeks. The visit will focus on finalizing the export of Pakistani corn to Iran, a step expected to diversify trade flows and strengthen regional food supplies.
Minister Jam Kamal Khan expressed appreciation to Iran for increasing imports of Pakistani rice and meat, acknowledging that such measures support Pakistan’s farmers while also benefiting Iranian consumers. In addition, Iran showed strong interest in working with Pakistan’s Seed Councils to conduct joint studies on seed development. This collaboration will aim at producing disease-resistant varieties, a move seen as critical to advancing food security and agricultural innovation in both countries.
