The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced a temporary suspension of mobile device registration due to scheduled system maintenance.
According to the official alert issued on 4th December 2025, the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) will remain unavailable for 24 hours this weekend. The maintenance activity is being carried out by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to ensure smoother operations and improved system functionality.
PTA has confirmed that the service interruption will begin at 10:00 PM PKST on Saturday, 6th December 2025, and continue until Sunday evening, 7th December 2025. During this period, users will not be able to register mobile devices through DIRBS, a system widely used to verify and register imported handsets, block stolen devices, and ensure compliance with national regulations.
The regulatory authority has urged individuals who require urgent mobile device registration to complete the process before the maintenance window begins. This advisory is particularly important for travelers returning to Pakistan with new smartphones, importers submitting device IMEI numbers, and users planning to activate recently purchased handsets.
PTA emphasized that the temporary suspension is part of routine upgrades aimed at enhancing system performance and maintaining secure, efficient digital services. Regular maintenance helps prevent system slowdowns, ensures data integrity, and supports the government’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal mobile phone imports and grey-market activities.
The authority has also expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and cooperation during this essential downtime. PTA stated that such temporary interruptions are necessary to support long-term improvements and provide a more reliable experience for millions of users nationwide.
Once the maintenance concludes on Sunday evening, DIRBS services—including device verification, IMEI registration, and status checking—are expected to resume normally. Users facing post-maintenance issues may contact PTA’s helpline or access its official website for assistance.
As mobile device registration remains a crucial requirement for legally operating imported smartphones in Pakistan, staying updated with PTA announcements helps users avoid inconvenience and ensure uninterrupted mobile connectivity.
