ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has announced a four-day public holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, allowing citizens across the country to celebrate the religious festival with ease and comfort.
According to media reports, the holidays will begin on Friday, June 6, 2025, and will continue through Monday, June 9, 2025.
This decision was finalized after receiving formal approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who endorsed the recommendation in light of the significance of Eid-ul-Adha for the Muslim community. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that people have adequate time to perform the traditional rituals, including the Qurbani (sacrifice of animals), and to spend meaningful moments with their families.
A formal notification confirming the public holidays is expected to be issued soon by the Cabinet Division. Government offices, educational institutions, and most private sector entities will remain closed during these days, providing ample time for citizens to engage in religious observances and festivities.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, holds profound religious and cultural value in Pakistan and the wider Muslim world. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command, a devotion that is honored annually through the sacrifice of livestock and the distribution of meat to the needy.
The extended holiday period is anticipated to boost domestic travel, as many people will head to their hometowns or villages to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha with relatives. Markets are also expected to remain busy in the days leading up to the holiday, especially in areas where sacrificial animals are bought and sold.
With this announcement, the nation now looks forward to observing Eid-ul-Adha with renewed spirit, unity, and devotion.
