Islamabad, February 15, 2025 – In a move aimed at providing relief to the public, Pakistan has announced a reduction in petrol prices by one rupee per litre for the next fortnight.
The decision, influenced by recent fluctuations in the international oil market, was confirmed through a notification issued by the Finance Division on Saturday.
According to the notification, the new price of petrol will stand at Rs256.13 per litre, reduced from Rs257.13. This adjustment is expected to benefit millions of citizens who rely heavily on petrol for their daily transportation needs. Petrol is predominantly used in private vehicles, including cars, rickshaws, and motorcycles, and serves as a critical component of household budgets for the middle and lower-middle classes.
Additionally, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has also been reduced, with the new rate set at Rs263.95 per litre, down from Rs267.95. Diesel, primarily used in heavy transport vehicles and agricultural machinery, has a direct impact on the cost of essential goods and services.
The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) conducted a thorough review of international oil price trends before recommending these adjustments. The authority emphasized that the price reduction aligns with the government’s strategy to manage inflation and provide financial relief to the population.
Petrol prices play a significant role in influencing the overall cost of living. When petrol prices rise, transportation costs increase, affecting the prices of everyday essentials such as vegetables, fruits, and other food items. Conversely, even a slight decrease in petrol prices can help stabilize inflationary pressures.
