Pakistan Assures Full Implementation of One Window Operations for Chinese Investors

Islamabad, August 7, 2023 – Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced the government’s commitment to fully implement one window operations to facilitate Chinese investors in the country, especially those involved in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Addressing an award ceremony in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of the CPEC in enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and China. He stated that the government is dedicated to simplifying procedures and streamlining processes to support Chinese companies and investors operating in Pakistan.

“We are going to create a one window operation to make it easier for Chinese investors. This is not just a promise, but we will truly implement it,” assured PM Shehbaz.

During the ceremony, the Prime Minister recognized the significant contributions of Chinese companies in promoting industrial growth and generating employment opportunities in Pakistan. He expressed gratitude for China’s investments in Pakistan, which have transformed the country’s economic landscape.

The CPEC, a flagship project under China’s Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI), has seen substantial investments of around $30 billion from China so far. This has resulted in the development of energy, infrastructure, industries, agriculture, and technology sectors in Pakistan.

PM Shehbaz revealed that the second phase of the CPEC is underway and includes new areas of cooperation, such as the green corridor, Information Technology, and Special Economic Zones. To further facilitate investment and development, the Pakistan government has launched the “Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC),” which will involve various stakeholders, including the federal and provincial governments, as well as the Pakistan Army led by General Syed Asim Munir.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain, the Minister for Board of Investment (BoI), highlighted the positive impact of the CPEC on Pakistan’s progress and development. He said the mega-project would help in domestic production, reducing the country’s reliance on imports.

In response, Pang Chunxue, the Charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, praised the CPEC’s role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan. She reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development and security.

With the assurance of a one window operation, the Pakistani government aims to strengthen economic ties with China and create a conducive environment for Chinese investors to thrive in the country. The implementation of these streamlined procedures is expected to further enhance bilateral cooperation and benefit both nations.
