Karachi, January 29, 2026 – Direct flight operations between Pakistan and Bangladesh officially resumed today, as Biman Bangladesh Airlines launched its inaugural service from Dhaka to Karachi after a 14-year hiatus.
The move marks a major step in enhancing connectivity and strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
The fully booked inaugural flight departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka, and landed at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, carrying passengers eager to experience the restored air link.
Dignitaries Attend Inaugural Ceremony
The flight was formally flagged off by key officials, including:
• H.E. Sk. Bashir Uddin, Adviser for Civil Aviation and Tourism
• Mr. Imran Haider, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh
• Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism
• Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh
• Managing Director & CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines
Other senior officials and representatives from both countries also attended the ceremony.
Strengthening Connectivity and People-to-People Ties
During the inaugural event, Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin highlighted the strategic importance of the Dhaka–Karachi route in promoting tourism, business exchanges, and cultural ties. He announced plans for increased flight frequency and reduced fares to make travel more accessible for citizens of both countries.
The High Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Haider, recalled the vision of Professor Muhammad Yunus and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to improve connectivity. He noted that during Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar’s visit to Dhaka in August 2025, both governments agreed on resuming direct flights to facilitate youth, academic, cultural, business, and familial exchanges.
He also expressed gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and the Civil Aviation Authority for their role in making the resumption possible.
