Pakistan strongly condemns Houthi attack on Riyadh Airport

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Foreign Office reaffirm Islamabad’s support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday strongly condemned the reported attack by the Houthi militia on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, describing it as a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

In a post on X, the prime minister extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift and full recovery of those injured in the attack.

“Attacks targeting civilians and critical infrastructure are completely unacceptable and constitute a serious threat to regional peace and stability. Such acts of violence, which are a flagrant violation of international law, must cease immediately,” he said.

Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia, its leadership and its people, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to the kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and the longstanding bonds between the two countries.

In a separate statement issued on Sunday, the Foreign Office spokesperson also strongly condemned the reported attack, describing the targeting of a civilian airport as a terrorist act, a violation of international law and a grave threat to regional peace and security.

The spokesperson expressed concern over reports of casualties and injuries, extending condolences to the victims’ families and wishing those injured a swift and complete recovery.

“The continued targeting of civilian population and critical infrastructure by the Houthi militia is utterly unacceptable and must be condemned unequivocally by the international community,” the statement said.

The Foreign Office added that indiscriminate attacks could not be justified under any circumstances and called for an immediate end to the violence. It also reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Saudi leadership and people in the face of repeated attacks.

Referring to the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence and recent decisions taken by the countries’ Strategic, Political and Defence Committee, the spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security and stability.

Pakistan fully supports the kingdom’s right to defend its territory, protect its people and safeguard its cities and vital infrastructure against threats and acts of aggression, the statement said.

The Foreign Office urged the Houthi militia to stop its attacks immediately and called on the international community to take a firm stand against acts that endanger civilian lives and undermine regional stability.

Pakistan, it added, would continue to stand alongside Saudi Arabia in support of its sovereignty, security and defence.
