Riyadh Airport attack Kills 12, injures 309, Saudi Arabia says

Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority confirms casualties from Saturday’s attack, with several injured in critical condition and damage assessments under way.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced early Sunday that 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in Saturday’s attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

According to GACA, the fatalities included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.

The authority said 309 people were injured, including several in critical condition. All those injured are receiving medical treatment at hospitals.

GACA expressed its condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery. It also confirmed that the attack caused property damage, with assessments under way to determine the extent of the destruction.

The incident prompted the temporary suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport as authorities assessed the damage and checked the safety of airport facilities.

In its initial statement, GACA reported that several people had been injured, adding that the full casualty toll was still being established.

The authority said the suspension was necessary to allow emergency teams and relevant agencies to complete safety assessments and ensure the security of passengers, airport personnel and civil aviation infrastructure.

The latest attack occurred just two days after three Saudi citizens were killed and several others injured in two separate attacks on the same airport on Thursday.

The latest casualties add to concerns over the safety of civilian infrastructure and the potential impact of repeated attacks on regional security and aviation operations.
