Karachi, January 6, 2026 — Pakistan Customs has successfully thwarted a major drug smuggling attempt, seizing 2.26 kilograms of marijuana with an estimated market value of Rs42 million at Karachi Airport, officials confirmed on Monday (January 5, 2025). The operation was carried out by the Collectorate of Customs (Airports), Karachi, through its vigilant Air Cargo Control Unit (ACCU), highlighting intensified surveillance at international cargo terminals.
According to an official news release, the illicit consignment was intercepted during routine scrutiny at the Immediate Clearance Group (ICG), Karachi. The suspicious parcel had arrived from the United States and was deliberately misdeclared as containing “documents” in an apparent effort to evade customs checks. However, customs officials identified discrepancies during the initial screening, prompting a detailed examination of the shipment.
Upon inspection, the parcel was found to be concealing approximately 2.26 kilograms (gross weight) of marijuana, cleverly packed inside a box to avoid detection by scanning equipment and inspection teams. Authorities said the narcotics were professionally concealed, indicating an organized attempt to exploit international courier and cargo channels for drug trafficking.
The swift and timely action by Pakistan Customs prevented the banned substance from entering the domestic market, averting potential social and economic harm. Following the seizure, the narcotics were taken into custody, and necessary legal proceedings have been initiated under the relevant laws against those involved in the smuggling attempt.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reiterated its firm resolve to curb smuggling and narcotics trafficking through all possible routes, including international mail, air cargo, and courier services. Officials emphasized that enhanced risk profiling, intelligence-based operations, and strict enforcement measures will continue to safeguard society, strengthen border controls, and uphold the rule of law across Pakistan.
