Pakistan Floods

Islamabad, August 24, 2025 – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that devastating floods triggered by torrential rains have claimed 788 lives across Pakistan since June 26, 2025.

The NDMA stated that the disaster has left a trail of destruction, injuring over 1,018 people, damaging 6,630 houses, and causing the death of 5,548 livestock nationwide.

According to NDMA figures, the fatalities include 200 children, 471 men, and 117 women, underscoring the widespread human toll of the floods. Punjab recorded 165 deaths, with 71 children, 63 men, and 31 women among the victims. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed the highest fatalities at 469, including 81 children, 329 men, and 59 women. Sindh reported 51 deaths, while Balochistan recorded 24, Gilgit-Baltistan 45, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 23, and Islamabad Capital Territory 8.

In addition to the fatalities, flood-related incidents caused 1,018 injuries, with Punjab bearing the brunt, reporting 584 cases. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa followed with 285 injuries, Sindh 71, Gilgit-Baltistan 42, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 28, Balochistan 5, and Islamabad Capital Territory 3. Children accounted for 279 of the injured, while 493 males and 246 females were also hurt.

The NDMA confirmed that 25,644 people have been rescued through 512 emergency operations conducted nationwide. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa led with 14,317 rescues across 211 missions, followed by Punjab with 9,211 rescues in 245 operations. Other provinces and regions, including Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh, Balochistan, and Islamabad, also saw extensive evacuation efforts.

Relief activities remain in full swing as NDMA, in coordination with the Pakistan Army and humanitarian partners, distributes critical supplies. Over 83,649 relief items – including tents, blankets, hygiene kits, food packs, and drinking water – have reached flood-affected communities. Additional equipment such as de-watering pumps, solar panels, and generators is also being deployed to assist recovery efforts.

The floods have caused widespread infrastructural damage, leaving 1,562 homes completely destroyed and 5,068 partially damaged. Livelihoods have been severely impacted with the loss of thousands of livestock, further worsening the crisis for vulnerable households.

To address medical and shelter needs, the NDMA has established 564 relief and medical camps nationwide. Of these, 45 medical camps have treated 3,227 individuals, while 519 relief camps are currently housing 29,311 displaced people.

Authorities warn that with monsoon conditions persisting, the risk of additional flooding remains high. NDMA continues to monitor weather patterns and issue alerts while coordinating with provincial governments to ensure rapid response and timely rehabilitation measures.

The scale of devastation highlights the urgent need for sustained relief operations and long-term measures to strengthen flood resilience across Pakistan.
