ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to take a major step toward next-generation connectivity as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially announced that the Spectrum Auction for Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS), including 5G, will be held on March 10, 2026.

According to an official press release, the finalized auction schedule comes after extensive stakeholder consultations and close regulatory coordination. The process has been designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and broad participation, reflecting PTA’s commitment to conducting a smooth and credible spectrum auction.

The confirmed timeline gives telecom operators and potential bidders sufficient time to complete technical, financial, and regulatory preparations ahead of the auction. PTA stated that the structured schedule aligns fully with all procedural and legal requirements, helping create a competitive environment that encourages optimal participation from the telecom sector.

The 5G spectrum auction is considered a critical milestone for Pakistan’s digital transformation, as next-generation mobile services are expected to support faster internet speeds, lower latency, and enhanced connectivity for industries, businesses, and consumers. The rollout of 5G is also anticipated to boost innovation, enable smart technologies, and strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy.

PTA has advised all interested parties to carefully review the Information Memorandum (IM) for “NGMS/5G in Pakistan,” which outlines auction rules, eligibility criteria, and spectrum details. Stakeholders are also encouraged to regularly check updates and announcements available on the official PTA website to stay informed throughout the auction process.
