Pakistan hockey has taken a significant step toward rebuilding its international competitiveness after the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) appointed renowned Dutch coach and high-performance specialist Herman Kruis as the National Hockey Coaching Advisor for a two-year term.

The appointment reflects the federation’s commitment to modernizing the national hockey structure, enhancing coaching standards, and establishing a sustainable high-performance system capable of producing consistent results at the international level.

Herman Kruis is regarded as one of the most experienced figures in global hockey, bringing decades of expertise in coaching, technical development, and high-performance management.

Throughout his career, he has worked with national teams and elite hockey programs across Europe, Asia, and other regions, helping organizations implement advanced coaching methods and player development strategies.

The PHF expects Kruis to play a central role in reshaping Pakistan’s hockey framework by introducing modern training techniques and strengthening the overall coaching ecosystem.

His responsibilities will extend beyond the senior national side, with a strong emphasis on nurturing emerging talent and creating a long-term pathway for junior players to transition into the national team.

Under his new role, Kruis will collaborate closely with the coaching staff of both the senior and junior national teams.

He will assist in designing and implementing a comprehensive high-performance framework focused on improving technical skills, tactical awareness, physical conditioning, and overall player development.

In addition to supporting national team preparations, the Dutch expert will provide technical guidance alongside specialists from different areas of hockey.

He will also contribute to enhancing talent identification programs, ensuring that promising young players receive structured development opportunities from an early stage.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation believes that integrating international expertise with domestic coaching resources will help establish a more competitive system and raise the overall standard of hockey across the country.

Kruis is scheduled to officially begin his responsibilities by joining the Pakistan squad during the upcoming Hockey World Cup. Following the tournament, he will oversee strategic planning and preparations for both the senior and junior national teams as they gear up for the Asian Games and other major international competitions.

The appointment is viewed as an important milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to restore its standing in world hockey through modern coaching practices, systematic player development, and long-term performance planning.
