Islamabad, October 3, 2024 – Pakistan and Malaysia reaffirmed their commitment to further bolster bilateral cooperation in key sectors including trade, economy, banking, food technology, and agriculture. This pledge was made during a high-profile meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and the visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The meeting, attended by senior Pakistani officials and ministers, focused on fortifying strategic partnerships between the two nations.

President Zardari warmly welcomed the Malaysian premier and emphasized Pakistan’s strong desire to enhance relations with Malaysia, a country he described as a trusted partner and brotherly nation. He noted that the visit of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim would serve as a catalyst for deeper cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.

The President highlighted the historical and cultural ties between Pakistan and Malaysia, underscoring the shared values and aspirations that unite the two nations. He further expressed Pakistan’s gratitude for Malaysia’s consistent support on key global issues, particularly those concerning the Muslim world. President Zardari also drew attention to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, urging the international community to take decisive action to prevent further atrocities and genocide against the Palestinian people.

In response, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s warm hospitality and emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral ties. He noted that his earlier discussions with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had been productive, laying the groundwork for enhanced cooperation across various fields. Anwar Ibrahim reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to deepening economic and political ties with Pakistan, especially in the areas of trade and banking, which are seen as pivotal to both nations’ economic growth.

A highlight of the visit was the special investiture ceremony, where President Zardari conferred the prestigious award of Nishan-e-Pakistan on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The award recognized his unwavering support for Islamic causes and his enduring friendship with Pakistan. During the ceremony, it was noted that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is an ardent admirer of Allama Iqbal, Pakistan’s national poet, whose philosophy has profoundly influenced his views on social justice and humanitarianism.
