Monsoon Rainfall

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its latest monsoon advisory for Sunday, August 31, 2025, warning of widespread rain, thunderstorms, and potential flooding in several regions of the country.

Weather Warnings

According to the PMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue today, August 30, and tomorrow, August 31. Intense downpours may trigger flash floods in local nullahs and streams of Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Nowshera, Swabi, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, northeast Punjab, Kashmir, and the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining areas.

Urban flooding may also occur in low-lying parts of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Peshawar, Nowshera, and Mardan. Furthermore, landslides or mudslides could result in road closures across vulnerable hilly terrains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir during this monsoon spell.

Synoptic Situation

Strong monsoon currents originating from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are penetrating the upper and central regions of Pakistan. Additionally, a westerly wave is expected to intensify and grip most of these areas from Sunday, further enhancing rainfall activity.

Forecast

• Saturday: Rain with wind and thunderstorms, including isolated heavyfalls, is expected in Punjab, Kashmir, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Northeastern Balochistan and north/southeastern Sindh may also receive light rain during the evening or night.

• Sunday: Rain-wind/thundershowers with scattered heavyfalls are forecast for Punjab, Kashmir, Potohar region, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Northeastern Balochistan, Southeastern Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan may also experience showers.

Rainfall & Temperature Highlights

In the past 24 hours, Cherat received 165 mm, Mandi Bahauddin 81 mm, and Kotli 41 mm of rain. Meanwhile, the highest recorded temperatures were 43°C in Chilas, Turbat, and Dalbandin, and 42°C in Nokundi, indicating lingering heat in southern regions despite ongoing monsoon rains.
