Karachi, December 23, 2025 – Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a significant unconventional gas discovery at its exploratory well LAL X-1 in the Kandhkot Development and Production Lease (D&PL), located in District Kashmore, Sindh Province.
In a notice shared with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday, PPL, the operator of Kandhkot D&PL with 100% working interest, confirmed that the discovery was made in the Lower Alabaster Formation. This marks the first-ever discovery from this formation at Kandhkot under PPL’s operation.
The exploratory well LAL X-1 was spudded on June 30, 2025, and drilled to a depth of 1,408 meters MD BKB to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of interbedded limestone beds in the Lower Alabaster Formation. During post-completion testing, the well flowed at a rate of 0.138 MMscfd of gas with a Wellhead Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 33 psig using a 64/64” choke.
These results confirm the presence of hydrocarbon potential in the Lower Alabaster Formation. PPL stated that the commercial viability of this discovery will be assessed based on post-well analysis and the outcomes of future exploratory wells targeting the Lower Alabaster Play.
The announcement has been made in compliance with Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015 and Clause 5.6.1 of Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited Regulations, ensuring timely disclosure of material information to stakeholders and investors.
This discovery is expected to enhance PPL’s exploration portfolio and contribute to Pakistan’s domestic gas production, supporting energy security and future development projects in Sindh.
