Pakistan Petroleum Discovers Gas in Sawan Field, Sindh

Pakistan Petroleum Limited

Karachi, November 14, 2025 – Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a significant gas discovery at the Sawan Field in Sindh province, marking a milestone in Pakistan’s energy sector.

In a statement to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), PPL said the discovery was made by the Sawan Joint Venture, which includes UEP Beta (operator, 25% working interest), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (30%), PPL Europe E&P Limited (10%), Prime AEP Limited (30%), and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (5%).

The exploratory well, Sawan North Deep-1 ST-1 (SND-1 ST-1), located in District Khairpur, Sindh, was spud-in on September 16, 2024, and successfully drilled to a depth of 14,017 feet MD (Measured Depth). The primary objective was to test the hydrocarbon potential of the Lower Goru Formation (A-Interval Sands).

Post-completion testing inside identified intervals of A-sand yielded gas at approximately 0.30 MMscfd, with a Flowing Wellhead Pressure (FWHP) of -100 psig at 128/64″ choke.

Notably, this well is the first in the Sawan area to be drilled using an exclusive sequence stratigraphic (trap) evaluation approach, validating the geological concept and opening new exploration opportunities across the region.

PPL emphasized that this discovery demonstrates the effectiveness of advanced exploration techniques and strengthens the country’s gas production potential, contributing to energy security.
