Karachi, March 26, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a weather advisory on Tuesday, forecasting a fresh spell of thunderstorms expected to hit the country from Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
According to the Met Office, a westerly wave is anticipated to enter the western regions of Pakistan on March 27 and gradually move towards the upper and central parts by March 28, persisting until March 31.
Under the influence of this weather system, various regions across Pakistan are expected to experience rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and snowfall in mountainous areas, accompanied by occasional heavy falls and hailstorms.
Here’s the breakdown of expected weather conditions across different provinces and regions:
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Malakand, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram are likely to experience rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms, with occasional heavy falls and hailstorms expected on March 29th and 30th.
Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir: Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar in Gilgit-Baltistan, and Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur in Kashmir are expected to witness rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall, with occasional heavy falls and hailstorms expected on March 29th and 30th.
Punjab/Islamabad: Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali are likely to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with occasional heavy falls and hailstorms expected. Similarly, some southern regions such as Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar may also experience similar weather patterns.
Balochistan: Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Sibbi, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Kalat, and Khuzdar are expected to receive rain, wind, and thunderstorms from March 27th to 29th, while dry weather and dust-raising winds are anticipated in the southern parts of the province.
Sindh: Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, and Dadu may experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms on March 28th and 29th, with dry weather and dust-raising winds expected in the southern regions of the province.
